The decision to set up a section on Nutrition and Food was made in December 2001 during annual EUPHA meeting in Brussels. The section had its first meeting in Dresden in November 2002. The main objectives are to share ideas of future activities, and to assemble all EUPHA researches interested in food and nutrition. The section currently has 297 members. At the Montreux conference, the section organised two parallel sessions on obesity, one workshop where the draft EUPHA statement on how to tackle the obesity epidemic was presented and an annual meeting.
